Meet a Rope Access Supervisor and find out what it takes to become one of the best…

Hi there, my name is Tertius, a Rope Access and Inspections Supervisor at Nikham Energy. Now, if you are wondering, “What in the world is Rope Access?” Let me tell you, it’s not just a fancy way of saying I climb up and down things all day (although, that is a big part of it). It’s a rather crucial aspect of the oil and gas industry, allowing us to perform inspections and maintenance in hard-to-reach areas, like offshore rigs.

So, how did I get into this line of work? It wasn’t exactly a straight path. Before I joined Nikham Energy, I was in the Meat/Biltong industry. I know, it’s a bit of a jump. But isn’t life is all about trying new things?

As a Rope Access Supervisor, my main focus is ensuring that our inspections are performed efficiently and to a high standard. This means lots of communication with both the client and the section leader on the rig. I make sure we know what’s going on, what they need, and what kind of time frame we’re working with. Plus, lots of planning and supervision, of course.

Now, let me walk you through a typical project my team and I would work on. Firstly, we talk to the client to figure out exactly what needs to be done. Then, we head out to the site to check out the access and see what kind of equipment and rigging we’ll need. After that, it’s all about getting the necessary permits and approvals, performing the work while keeping in communication with the client, and finally, closing everything out.

Of course, this job isn’t without its challenges. The toughest part for me is making sure everyone understands what’s going on. We work with a lot of people from different nationalities and backgrounds, so communication is key. I like to think I’m a pretty patient person, and I’m always willing to explain things as many times as needed to make sure everyone is on the same page.

So, what sets Nikham Energy apart from other companies? Well, for starters, we’re a global force in the industry. We hire only the best and do the job right, every time. Plus, our teams are some of the most skilled and experienced in the business. And let’s not forget our motto: “A Global Force. Your Turnkey Solution. Our Energy.” That sums us up in a pretty concise manner.

All in all, I love being an Inspection Supervisor at Nikham Energy. It can be very demanding, but there’s nothing quite like the feeling of successfully completing a project, knowing that we’ve helped keep things running smoothly and safely, and made another client happy…. that, and the views from up here are rather spectacular.
